Charlotte’s Best Attractions (Part One)

Charlotte is truly a fabulous city, with a fun and vibrant culture plus lots of things to do and explore. Nestled between the mountains and the coast, this Southern city is sure to charm your boots off as it has something to offer for everyone. In this mini article, I will share with you some of the unique attractions that I personally know and love that the Queen city has to offer.

CHARLOTTE’S BEST ATTRACTIONS (in no particular order)

  1. The Whitewater Center – great for those that love the outdoors, this Olympic training area hosts River Jam, a fun summer music concert series. In addition to rafting, guests can also mountain bike, hike, rock climb, paddleboat, zipline, and so much more! There’s also a new dog park, so be sure to check it out!
  2. Carowinds – for the thrill seekers, this amusement park is nestled smack dab in the middle of the Carolinas, and the state line bisects the park beautifully. This amusement park also features Carolina Harbor, an enormous water park where you can go and cool off after you’ve experienced the death defying drops of Fury 325 and The Intimidator. Carowinds is also hosting a summer music concert series as well during the weekends. In the fall, Carowinds turns into Scarowinds, a hauntingly fun time where you’re sure to have the fright of your life. In the winter, Scarowinds turns into Winterfest, and all of the trees are beautifully lit, and it is wonderful to stroll around with hot cocoa and hearing the carolers sing.
  3. The Discovery Place – for the scientifically savvy, this place is one that will astonish you, with many interactive displays that will show you advancements in STEM in a new and exciting way. There’s also Science on the Rocks, which happens certain Friday nights, where adults get to enjoy mixed drinks and other adult beverages and mingle with other brilliant minds.
  4. Belk Theater – for those that know that there’s no business like show business, the Belk Theater is especially fun for those that want to feel like they’re back in the heyday of Broadway. On top of having musicals, they also host Shen Yun annually, and the parking here is super easy and can usually be validated without a problem.
  5. The Mint Museums – for the art enthusiasts, it was hard narrowing it down to just one museum. I chose the Mint Museums (both the uptown and Randolph locations) because of the sheer amount of art they have from different times, and the dedication they take to ensuring that everyone has a wonderful experience. My favorite exhibit was when they had the Women of Vision on display, featuring women photographers from the National Geographic. I was also able to attend a private event and meet some of the photographers, and it was definitely a night to remember!

Charlotte has so many more wonderful attractions and I couldn’t put it all in one blog post. I’ll continue adding more blogs like these for Charlotte and for other surrounding areas as well.
